Employee Critically Injured After Being Struck By Work Vehicle In Ridge

An employee at a fencing company on Long Island was critically injured after being struck by a work truck.

The accident happened on Saturday, July 13 in Ridge.

Efran Veliz-Alverado was in a work vehicle at RFC Residential Fences Corp., located at 1775 Middle Country Road, and began backing the vehicle into a parking spot when Mark Craparo walked into the yard and was struck by the truck at 10:45 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.

Craparo, 47, of Babylon, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police helicopter in critical condition. Veliz-Alverado, 36, of Medford, was not injured.

Motor Carrier Safety Section responded to the scene for a safety check of the vehicle, a Ford F-550. OSHA was notified. Seventh Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
